Prayers of the People

February 10, 2013

Let us go up the mountain. Let us go up to the place where the land meets the sky, where the earth touches the heavens, to the place of meeting, to the place of mists, to the place of voices and conversations, to the place of listening. Let us pray. On hearing the words, "God of Wonder and Glory", please respond with "Hear our prayers."

God of awesome glory, help us to bring your change to a troubled society, where people are unsure of so much and where change comes so fast. Give us the grace to understand people’s problems and anxieties and the strength to tackle difficult issues head on. Help us to work together to transform a needy world, whether through giving or educating or leading by example. Give us the wisdom to see through big and complex issues and the love that will keep us going when problems are overwhelming. God of Wonder and Glory...    "Hear our prayers."

Transforming God, we lift up our blessings and concerns for others. Grant to them health and wholeness, peace and joy, strength and hope. We remember before you all those named in our Prayer List. We pause at this time to pray, either silently or aloud, for all those whose names are on our hearts...    ...God of Wonder and Glory...    "Hear our prayers."

God of Change, receive our prayers, and hear our heartfelt cry for justice and peace in the world. Bless all who work for a peaceful world; peacemakers, peacekeepers and their families, and all those who willingly give of their time, their expertise and their lives to assist others in need. Peace- loving God, be a source of strength for our brothers and sisters at Nyanyadzi Methodist Church in Zimbabwe. In our Kootenay Presbytery prayer cycle this week, we offer prayers for all those involved with the planning and organizing of Camp Koolaree, as well as those who attend. In the World Council of Churches Prayer Cycle, we offer prayers for the people of Belgium, Luxembourg, and Netherlands. God of Wonder and Glory...    "Hear our prayers."

Loving God, we pray that your glory may fill your church and give to your people everywhere the energy to shine wherever there is darkness, disunity, persecution, or despair. Give us all a greater love of your holiness, a greater delight in your mystery, and a greater joy in seeking your presence. Grant us a glimpse of your glory—fill us with your spirit—refresh us and make us new.

And the people say...    "AMEN".
