Prayers of the People

Thanksgiving Sunday

On hearing the words, "God, we present our prayers of gratitude and thanksgiving," please respond with "Hear our Prayers."

Autumn God, you call us to give thanks for all those God-given blessings and gifts of abundance. We respond in gratitude and wonder. We give thanks for our families, our friends, and our daily lives. We express gratitude for our gifts that we can share, for opportunities that we enjoy and for the kindness and goodness of our church family. God we present our prayers of gratitude and thanksgiving...    "Hear our Prayers."

Generous God, we appreciate the diversity of our lives and our surroundings. We are open and willing to share our blessings and resources with others. In our Kootenay Presbytery prayer cycle this week, we offer prayers for those members of Kootenay Presbytery who will be attending the fall meeting at Nelson United Church next weekend. May they travel safely. In the World Council of Churches Prayer Cycle, we offer prayers for the people of Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal. We send heartfelt prayers and blessings to David as he begins his Everest trek. God we present our prayers of gratitude and thanksgiving...    "Hear our Prayers."

God of mercy and compassion, we pray that you accept our concerns for all those who are ill or in pain; those who grieve; those who feel lonely, desolate or unloved. Grant to them health and wholeness, strength and hope. We remember before you all those named in our Prayer List. We pause at this time to pray, either silently or aloud, for all those whose names are on our hearts...    ...God we present our prayers of gratitude and thanksgiving...    "Hear our Prayers."

Peace- loving God, be a source of strength for our brothers and sisters at Nyanyadzi Methodist Church in Zimbabwe. May they always feel our caring support. Help us all to work and pray for justice and peace throughout the world. We especially hold in our prayers, all peacemakers, peacekeepers and their families. We celebrate the safe return to Canada of John Greyson and Tarek Loubani, recently imprisoned in Egypt. Our hearts ache for all those who have recently been displaced from their homes and separated from their families. We hold in our prayers particularly the people of Syria, and migrants from North Africa trying so desperately to start their lives anew. God we present our prayers of gratitude and thanksgiving...    "Hear our Prayers."

Hear words of thanksgiving attributed to Ralph Waldo Emerson:

For each new morning with its light,
For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food,
For love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends,
We thank Thee.
And the people say...    "AMEN!"
