Prayers of the People

September 29, 2013

Sisters and brothers, today we greet you in Christ in the theme of everlasting Peace. In a world which does not ever exist in a state of peace, help us to understand today, some of those barriers to achieving peace in our own world and that of our fellow persons throughout the world. When you hear the words, "God of Enduring Peace," please respond with, "Hear our Prayers."

Peaceful God, Let us consider our own conscious behaviors and how they may position people to oppose, to hold others under suspicion, in contempt, mistrust and in hatred. Let us embrace differences in culture, race, creed, colour, and wealth, politics, borders, economics and class; and resist the perceived comfort brought about by like minds and sameness. God of Enduring Peace...    "Hear our Prayers."

Loving God, as we bring before you the sick and those who minister to them, the bereaved and those who comfort them, the lonely and those who befriend them, we pray for them, we pray for those close to them. We especially voice our heartfelt concerns for all those named in our Prayer List. Into your care and keeping we commit those whom we have mentioned and those known to us who need that sense of your presence, who we mention now or hold silently in our hearts...    ...Bring to us the peace of companionship on the journey and intimacy in our loneliness, as words that comfort, hands that hold and arms that rock. God of Enduring Peace...    "Hear our Prayers."

Gracious God, we join together as we pray for all people who minister within our Presbytery and in particular on this day we pray for Rev. Doug Goodwin and the members of B.C. Conference. We pray for our brothers & sisters at Nyanyadzi Methodist Church in Zimbabwe, peacemakers and peacekeepers serving throughout the world, and, the peoples of the Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, named in our World Council of Churches Prayer Cycle. God of Enduring Peace...    "Hear our Prayers."

Trusting God: Let us strive for ways to understand others more fully and to reconcile their differences to our own. Provide us the humility, tolerance, the willingness and courage necessary to build everlasting human relationships within ourselves and throughout the world. God of Enduring Peace...    "Hear our Prayers."

Amen
