We Are An Affirming Ministry As an Affirming Ministry, we celebrate the diversity of God’s creation. We celebrate the richness of our community when we have diversity in age, gender identity, racial/cultural backgrounds, sexual orientation, ability, and family configurations. We seek to create a safe space with an open invitation to bring every aspect of your whole self into your participation in this ministry.

Dream a Dream’ Christmas Cantata & White Gift Sunday On Sunday, December 23rdduring worship there will be a Christmas Cantata performed by our Chancel Choir. This ‘Dream a Dream’ Christmas Cantata was developed by musician/composer Ron Klusmeier as a fundraiser for the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, which the United Church has supported for many years—it is our White Gift charity this year; the words to the anthems and hymns are all by Shirley Erena Murray—a New Zealand lyricist who writes provocatively and inspirationally. There will be a pamphlet and envelope with your bulletin that Sunday with information about the Canadian Foodgrains Bank whose mission is:

“providing food in times of crisis for hungry people in the developing world; helping people grow more food to better feed themselves and their families, and providing nutritional support to malnourished people with a focus on pregnant and breastfeeding mothers and young children.”

Special donations may be made December 23rdwith cheques written directly to ‘Canadian Foodgrains Bank’ (which we will collect and send on your behalf) or, if you prefer, to Nelson United Church, making a note on the memo line that it’s for the Canadian Foodgrains Bank.
