 For the Children
Children are always welcome and encouraged to come to church on Sunday.
We have a Nursery Room available upstairs by the balcony,
Quiet Play Centre in the front right-hand side of the sanctuary
and activity packages are available from the ushers.

Intergenerational Sunday
The first Sunday of each month is Communion Sunday
and is an Intergenerational Sunday,
so the children do not go to Sunday School.
Activity packages are available from the ushers.

We Are An Affirming Ministry
As an Affirming Ministry, we celebrate the diversity of God’s creation.
We celebrate the richness of our community when we
have diversity in age, gender identity,
racial/cultural backgrounds, sexual orientation, ability,
and family configurations.
We seek to create a safe space
with an open invitation to bring every aspect of your whole self into
your participation within this ministry.

Give It Up for the Earth: Take Climate Justice Action Now
The Citizens for Public Justice (CPJ) have invited us once again to participate in their Canada-wide Lenten event for climate justice. There are pledge cards to sign, which we had available in church last week, but on March 1st, 7 pm in the Sanctuary, the Nelson Interfaith Climate Action Collaborative is hosting Greg Utzig and the launch of the campaign.Greg will speak on climate disruption as we are experiencing it here in the Kootenays and also about the significant changes we will need to make as individuals, as a society, and politically. The theme of this year’s campaign is ending fossil-fuel company subsidies in Canada, which amounts to $1.8 billion! See you on Thursday, March 1st, here in the sanctuary at 7 pm.Tell your friends!

World Day of Prayer Worship Service
Each year one of 4 participating local congregations hosts the World Day of Prayer worship service.  The service this year, written by the WDP committee of Suriname, will be hosted by the Cathedral of Mary Immaculate, Saturday, March 3 at 1 pm.  All are welcome to attend.

Hosts needed to billet for an Exciting NUC Fundraiser:
University of Alberta Mixed Chorus
Spring Tour Concert
At Nelson United Church, Monday, April 30th

We hosted this choir in 2013 and it was a wonderful experience for us and the choir and an excellent fundraiser for NUC.  We have the fortunate opportunity to host this fabulous choir from Edmonton once again.  They arrive the afternoon of Monday, April 30th and perform that evening in the sanctuary.  After their concert, they are billeted with hosts from our congregation for one night and then leave the next morning.  If you have room to billet or would like more information, please contact Lois in the church office.

The Observer Renewals
The Observer is the United Church of Canada’s national magazine. Annual renewals are now due.You may bring your cheque, made out to Nelson United Church, into the office or put it in your envelope in the offering plate. Please ensure you mark the envelope or memo line of your cheque accordingly. If you would like to cancel or begin receiving the magazine, please contact our Observer Rep. Rosena Warner. This year’s subscription is $25.00.

Important Reminder Regarding our Prayer List
Whenever adding a person’s name to our prayer list, please be respectful of that person’s privacy and Check with them or their family to make sure they want to be on the prayer list. Do not share their personal health information unless they say it is ok to share it. Please contact the office to ensure all details are correct and the name is added to the bulletin. Thank you for being a community full of love and compassion.

Friendly Reminder re Parking for Church & Church Events:
With our location on the corner of two streets, and with the snow and hills more partic
ularly, parking is a challenge. Our request is that the more able-bodied folk please park farther away from the church thus leaving the spots on the streets closer to the church for those who need them. This includes the parking lot at the back of the church, too. Many of you already carpool and that’s great; if carpooling is an option we encourage you to do so … it’s a nice social time, too.
