For the Children
Sunday school is taking a rest for the summer. Children are always welcome and encouraged to come to church on Sunday. We have a Nursery Room available upstairs by the balcony, a Quiet Play Centre in the front right hand side of the sanctuary, and activity packages are available from the ushers.

Staff Schedule
John will be away until September.  Thank you to Muriel Tyler for accompanying us on the piano this summer.  Thank you also to Joe Woodward for coordinating the group of volunteer custodians. 
David will be away on holidays until August 2nd.

Birthday and One Year Celebration for Selem
Thursday, July 21st, 6 pm in our Church Hall.
Pot-luck supper.  All are welcome!
Celebrate with Selem: it’s her birthday and one yearof living with us as her family and friends in Nelson.  Many thanks to all of you who have welcomed and supported her!  We still have no word from our government about her children’s arrival, a subject of great concern for her and them. We hope to celebrate and welcome them soon!

Financial Update
At June 30th our operating disbursements exceeded our operating income by $19,053.

Water Please  
We presently have a team of three who keeps the church’s outdoor plants watered every summer for approximately 12 weeks.  When it’s very hot the plants need watering almost daily but usually every other day is fine.  If you can help, please contact Barbara 250 354 4257.  Thank you.

Keep The Date
You are all invited to attend the annual Summer Social to be held this year in the church hall on Thursday, July 14 at 2 pm. out to enjoy fellowship, delicious berry shortcake with a beverage, a little entertainment and a sing-a-long and lots of light chat.

Assistance to Fort McMurray
Thank you for all of your messages of concern and your continued prayers for the Fort McMurray people.  While it is too early to tell exactly what will be needed in the aftermath of this disaster, we do know that those needs will be significant. The United Church of Canada’s Alberta & Northwest Conference is receiving donations to assist.  Tax deductible donations can be made online through Alberta and Northwest Conference   or by a cheque made out to Nelson United Church noting on the memo line that it is for Fort McMurray.

Camp Koolaree Campership Fund
Camp Koolaree is gearing up for the summer season and already requests for Camperships exceeds the amount in the Campership Fund. Send a child to camp! Donating is easy. Simply put your donation marked “for Camp Koolaree” into the offering plate or donate online at the camp’s website.   Either way, you will get a tax receipt. Every little bit helps!

Kootenay Refugee Coalition 
If you are interested in donating to help the Kootenay Refugee Coalition support refugees coming to our area and to assist in supporting Selem and Helen from Eritrea, you may do so through your offering envelopes, noting Refugee Coalition in the memo line.  One time or monthly donations are greatly appreciated. Caring Casseroles
Do you know someone (or yourself) who would be helped by having a pre-made meal?  There are a variety (vegetarian, gluten free, and meat) of casseroles in the freezer in our kitchen.  Please let Donna Strongman or Diane Holt know and it could be delivered, or take it yourself.

Prayer Shawl Group
Over 165 hand knitted or crocheted prayer shawls have been lovingly created by members of the Prayer Shawl Group.  The shawls been received by those appreciating a ‘warm hug filled with God’s love’.  Anyone wishing to knit or crochet prayer shawls (beginners welcome!) are invited to join us in the Trinity Lounge the first Monday of each month at 1:30 pm.  For more info. please speak to Anne Corbett 250-352-2490.
