For the Children
 Children are always welcome and encouraged to come to church on Sunday. We have a Nursery Room available upstairs by the balcony, a Quiet Play Centre in the front right hand side of the sanctuary, and activity packages are available from the ushers. 

Youth Group Helpers Needed
Adult volunteers are needed to share in helping out at our Youth Group meetings.  Teens need to connect with a variety of adults in the congregation to be grounded in their faith community! Our dates are Friday nights, Sept. 30, Oct 7 & 21, Nov. 4 & 18 and Dec. 2, so if there are two or three days you can help with, talk to Robin: 250-352-2822, youth@nelsonunitedchurch.ca

Staff Schedule
David has been called away suddenly . He will return to the office on October 5th or 6th.
Lois is on holidays until October 11th.  Thanks very much to Barbara Couch for working in the office while Lois is away.

Thanksgiving Décor
People who are willing to share bounty from their gardens and their pantries please leave items in the sanctuary for Saturday,  October 8th at 10 am. You are welcome to retrieve your goods after the service or we can pass them on to the Food Cupboard for you.

Nelson United Church Conflict Resolution Strategy
Thank you to the Admin. Team and in particular Jasmine Lysenko for preparing a Nelson United Church Conflict Resolution Strategy.  This new strategy was recently approved by our NUC Board.  Copies are available here or in the Narthex (the entrance by the Office).

Alzheimer Collection
As in past years, we will be putting the collection box out for Alzheimers for three Sundays in October. plan to make a donation for your coffee on those Sundays (October 9, 16 and 23).

Climate Leadership Matters Postcard Campaign
The Citizens’ Climate Lobby has starting a postcard campaign to empower Premier Clark to work with her counterparts across Canada to enact a strong national carbon price that rises every year.  Please show your support by signing the postcards available downstairs after worship or via the online petition at Change.org

New Memorial Window Plaques
We have received memorial donations to our windows fund in memory of Dot and Murray Gustafson, and Louise and Roger Legge.  Plaques in their names have been added to Windows Memorial  Plaque.  Our thanks to the donors.

Financial Update
            At July 31st our operating disbursements exceeded our operating income by $22,870.

More Items Needed…Thanks to all who have offered items or services for our October 29th Silent Auction.  We need a few more items or services. If you can help, please contact the church office.

Supplies for Mexico
Fran and Ken Flesaker leave for Mexico at the end of October.  They will again be staying in the village of Aqua Verde.  They would like to assist these villagers as well as those living in the inaccessible village of Tambichi.  They would like to bring: Sunglasses and reading glasses, Beautiful BC, O Canada, Canadian Geographic magazines, Backpacks, new or gently used children’s socks, stickers, crayons and small colouring books, embroidery thread, pencils. If you can help with any of the items please drop them off at the church office.  If you would like to make a monetary donation for medicines or specialists or for food staples, you may do so through your envelope offerings.  Please make your cheque is payable to Nelson United Church noting on the envelope or cheque’s memo line that it is for ‘Mexico’.

Food For Thought
Near the end of October we are hoping to host an evening fundraiser to include desserts and a silent auction. Please think about whether you could donate an interesting new item or perhaps a service for the silent auction.For further information, please talk to Lois or Leah.

Kootenay Refugee Coalition 
If you are interested in donating to help the Kootenay Refugee Coalition support refugees coming to our area and to assist in supporting Selem and Helen from Eritrea, you may do so through your offering envelopes, noting Refugee Coalition in the memo line.  One time or monthly donations are greatly appreciated. Scent Free Church
Please remember to refrain from wearing perfumes, colognes, after shaves and all other scented products to church.  We have some members with allergies to these products.

Caring Casseroles
Do you know someone (or yourself) who would be helped by having a pre-made meal?  There are a variety (vegetarian, gluten free, and meat) of casseroles in the freezer in our kitchen.  Please let Donna Strongman or Diane Holt know and it could be delivered, or take it yourself.

Prayer Shawl Group
Over 165 hand knitted or crocheted prayer shawls have been lovingly created by members of the Prayer Shawl Group.  The shawls been received by those appreciating a ‘warm hug filled with God’s love’.  Anyone wishing to knit or crochet prayer shawls (beginners welcome!) are invited to join us in the Trinity Lounge the first Monday of each month at 1:30 pm.  For more info. please speak to Anne Corbett
