Prayers of the People: April 15

To the bidding, “God of peace and love,” please respond:  “Hear our prayers.” Let us come together in prayer: God of peace and love…    “Hear our prayers.”

O Holy One, This morning our world, indeed much of your whole creation, seems to be in so much stress and tension.  We need your wise presence to help us make decisions and act with the wisdom that will help healing and reconciliation occur, and peace with justice to prevail.  So many of our leaders seem to be wanting us to be filled with anger, and to respond out of that anger.  Help us to take the time we need to pray, to ponder in the silence of Your company before we make any response.  Help us to not feel we always need to be in control, to babysit the world.  Like the psalmist, we can lie down, rest in Your safety and get a good night’s sleep.  We know we will think and feel more clearly tomorrow. God of peace and love…    “Hear our prayers.”

God of Creation,  Help us to be open to the wisdom witness of those who spent much time in pondering both in our private spaces and in your Creation, like the ancient Desert Father who said all he needed was writ in your creation; “my book is the nature of created things, and as often as I have a mind to read the words of God, it is at my hand.”   In your Creation, we rest as an integral part of this world. God of peace and love…    “Hear our prayers.”

God of Hope, We ask your blessings for all those who witness for hope and peace with justice around the world.  Today especially, we ask blessings of care for journalists who struggle to share the truth with us from many life-threatening circumstances; for people who engage in non-violent protest against unjust life circumstances for numbers of Your children and for Your creation; for the millions of Your peoples displaced from their homes, separated from families by famine, conflict, disasters of nature.  We pray for peacemakers and peacekeepers, health care workers, teachers, engineers, first responders, and the many who serve throughout the world through many organizations, regardless of the vests, hats, uniforms, badges they wear to mark their presence in times and areas of danger. God of peace and love…    “Hear our prayers.”

God of All Nations, We pray for all Your peoples around the world, and especially for Belarus, Moldova, Russia, Ukraine from the World Council Of Churches Prayer Cycle, and for our brothers & sisters at Nyanyadzi Methodist Church in Zimbabwe. God of peace and love…    “Hear our prayers.”

God of Presence and Healing, In our local region today we pray for all presbytery delegates attending the Spring Presbytery Gathering in Cranbrook.  May they have times of renewal and hope amongst the many meetings, and may they travel safely. There are several among our families and friends who are in need of Your gentle supportive presence and healing.  Today we pray for all those named in our Prayer List… Please take a few moments to name aloud or in your hearts others you wish to bring to God’s attention at this time…       God of peace and love…    “Hear our prayers.”

O Holy One, we know the God we want and need is You, the God we actually have  –  The One who is with us, not over us; The One who is encouraging us in our efforts to live together in mutually empowering ways, not opposing us.  You are in our midst, enlivening our attempts to build and sustain the moral compasses we need to guide us in our lives, together and always.

And the people say…   “AMEN!
