Prayers of the People: August 6

Published on Aug 6th, 2017 by Webminister | 0

In this morning’s gospel reading, Matthew tells us: It was a deserted place – as in a kind of wilderness. It was late – as in descending darkness. There was a crowd –as in too many and too hungry. The disciples say to Jesus: “We have nothing here except …” as in not enough. Holy Presence, then and now, there and here:

We too know desert wilderness – as in illness, aging, and family concerns. We know darkness – as in sorrow, as in fears, as in personal decision making. We know emptiness – as in having nothing or very little – either for ourselves or for others. And so it is we find ourselves in scripture, in Your Story, in Your on-going Love Story. Like those before us, we learn to rely on Your Presence, Your Love, in every wilderness, in every kind of darkness, in every kind of emptiness.

Divine Love, You give. We receive…    Thank you God.

Hear now our prayers for those in our Prayer List. We envision Your Love filling each one as they have need…   …Holy Presence, hear now those we name aloud or in silence …    …From the Kootenay Presbytery Prayer Roster we pray for Carolyn Rogers, Conference Minister for Kootenay Presbytery. From the World Council of Churches Prayer Cycle:  we pray for The Caribbean: Antigua and Barbuda, the Bahamas, Barbados, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suri/name, Trinidad and Tobago – and – as always, we remember the Nyanyadzi Methodist Church in Zimbabwe.

We also remember the many, many throughout the world who, in one way or another, are feeding, healing, protecting, building, and teaching. Divine Love, You give. Others receive…    Thank you God.

The psalmist declares: “You are near to all who call upon you.” So it is wilderness is a place for Your transforming Power. Darkness is a home for Your Light. Emptiness is a place for Your Filling. Divine Love, You give. We and others receive...    Thank you God.

In Jesus Name we pray, And the people say… Amen!
