Prayers of the People: December 9 – ADVENT 2

Published on Dec 9th, 2018 by Member of Congregation | 0

In the turmoil of our times, we have come here this day seeking sanctuary and peace. Join with me in the prayers of the people, and when I say, “Just and Merciful God, lead us on,” please respond with “Hear our prayers.”

Often when words fail us, a small show of affection, a countenance of concern with our hand extended will bridge the gap, closing the space between us. In the World Council of Churches prayer cycle, we are asked to pray for the countries of Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam. In the Kootenay Presbytery Prayer list, we pray for Jay Olson, President, and Executive Secretary, Doug Goodwin of  BC Conference, soon to become the Pacific Mountain Region.  Just and Merciful God, lead us on…  “Hear our prayers.”

In our prayers today we name all those on our Prayer List. We pause at this time to name, either silently or aloud, all those for whom we feel concern …    … Just and Merciful God, lead us on…  “Hear our prayers.”

As we follow the Christmas Star these words of Richard Wagamese will conclude our prayers:

We are one spirit, one song, and our world will be harmonious only when we take time to care for ourselves, for each other, for our home.” (The Earth)

And the people say…   “AMEN!”
