Prayers of the People: February 10

Published on Feb 10th, 2019 by Member of Congregation | 0

Let us quiet our minds and open our hearts as we pray for those in the world and in our community. When you hear the phrase, “Oh Holy One,” please respond with, “hear our prayers.”

God, holy spirit, the source of light, wisdom and love we gather here in this sanctuary to worship you and express our gratitude for your creation and the blessings you have bestowed upon us. We are blessed by you to live in a rich and free country while so many in this world do not.

We are blessed with your presence in the name of your son Jesus who taught us of love for one another without judgement and with generosity. We strive to keep his word and in so doing show our love for you. In our prayers today we focus on the world and our community. Where we have no ability to help we ask for a change to improve the lives of those in need. Here in our community where we can help, enlighten us through the teachings of Jesus and encourage us into action.  Oh, Holy One…    “hear our prayers.”

Loving God, we turn our attention to those outside our congregation who work to improve the lives of others. We name:

  • Our Bienestar partners involved in the Nelson United Church outreach project in Guatemala,
  • Our brothers and sisters at the Nyanyadzi Methodist Church in Zimbabwe,
  • Our Peacemakers and peacekeepers serving throughout the world,
  • Health care workers, teachers, engineers,
  • The LGBTQ people of Tanzania and
  • All those working with organizations serving people in other countries.

We ask for your grace, to be with them and the goodness they bring to others. Oh, Holy One…    “hear our prayers.”

Loving God, we now turn our prayers to our friends and members of our congregation who face hardships.  You know the needs of each of these people we mention. May you ease their way through the challenges they face and guide us to be of help in lessening their pain.  In Our Prayers are all those named in our Prayer List. We pause to add names either out loud or in the silence of our hearts. You know our concerns and our wishes for your grace to come to them. In our faith may your grace be given to them…    …Oh, Holy One…    “hear our prayers.”

God of all creation, a source of all knowledge, wisdom, love and power, we ask for your glory to shine through us in helping those in need. Give us the clarity of mind and the gift of wisdom to find in ourselves the love and assistance we can provide for those less fortunate, so they too can experience your glory.

And the People say,  “AMEN!
