Prayers of the People: January 28

God of Light, teach us to be followers of your law, despite our human fallibility. Help us to trust in you and in the love you would have for us, and to understand that your law is dependent on us needing one another and that no one is any less important. So, when you hear the words, God of the Divine Light, please respond with “Hear our Prayers.”

Merciful God, we join with others as we pray for Our brothers & sisters at Nyanyadzi Methodist Church in Zimbabwe, Peacemakers and peacekeepers, Healthcare workers, teachers, engineers and the many who serve throughout the world through many organizations.  In our Kootenay Presbytery Prayer roster we pray for the lay leaders and congregations of Communities in Faith (the congregations of Rossland and Trail.)  In The World Council of Churches Prayer Cycle, we pray for the countries of Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Western Sahara, Tunisia.  God of the Divine Light…     “Hear our Prayers.”

Gracious God, help us as Christians to gain a deeper insight into the beliefs of those who practise other faiths. Let us be open to receiving them and hearing them, and working with them to find common ground by which we can work together to benefit those who have needs that we cannot adequately meet on our own. May we understand more clearly our differences and share our common convictions, and go forward in faith to learn more of your truth, mercy and love. God of the Divine Light…     “Hear our Prayers.”

As we come before you our Father and our Friend, we pray today for our own hearts and for those we love who are sad, or facing bad news, grieving, or unwell. We especially voice our heartfelt concerns for all those named in our Prayer List. In the silence now we think of the prayers for those closest to us, who we mention now or hold silently in our hearts…     …God of the Divine Light…     “Hear our Prayers.”

Help us to continue to bring forth our church to our wider community and have us show your love to the world. Continue to enable us to be welcoming to all so that we can do your work more broadly in partnership within a holistic community, and put our faith and commitment to Jesus Christ, who gave himself and suffered for our sake. God of the Divine Light…     “Hear our Prayers.”

Amen.
