On this Father’s Day, let us join our hearts and minds as one in prayer. When you hear the words “Spirit-filled God” please respond with “Hear our Prayers.

God of many names, on this special Sunday as we honour our earthly fathers, we name you “Father”.   We ask for your blessing on all fathers; those that put the needs of their children above their own convenience and comfort; those that teach us to show courage and determination in the face of adversity; those that lead with dignity, compassion and respect; those that find parenting a difficult journey.   Guide new and future fathers to raise happy, healthy children, grounded in a love for God and other people. We know that our fathers who have passed into the next life have been welcomed into Your loving embrace; and they will never be forgotten. Spirit-filled God…    “Hear our Prayers.

Thoughtful and loving God, hear our prayers for the church universal; for this congregation, its mission and ministry; for our nation and its leaders. In our Kootenay Presbytery prayer cycle this week, we offer prayers for Kim Horwood, Minister at Boundary Pastoral Charge and the congregations of Greenwood, Grand Forks and Christina Lake. In the World Council of Churches Prayer Cycle, we present our prayers for the people of Angola and Mozambique. Spirit-filled God…    “Hear our Prayers.

Merciful God, we lay before you our concerns for all those who are ill or in pain; those who grieve; those who feel lonely, dejected, forgotten; those who are oppressed and endangered.  We especially remember before you today all those named in our Prayer List. We pause at this time to name, either silently or aloud, all those for whom we feel concern …    …Spirit-filled God…    “Hear our Prayers.

God of the Holy Spirit, grant us the courage and faith to work together in harmony.   Help us to willingly and prayerfully support each other, our community and our church, following the teachings and the example of our Father-God and his blessed son, Jesus. Bless all those striving to achieve peace thoughout the world. Watch over peacemakers and peacekeepers; bless them all and their families. Shine your light of love and faith on our brothers and sisters at Nyanyadzi Methodist Church in Zimbabwe. Accept our prayers of support for health care workers, teachers, engineers and the many who serve throughout the world in various organizations. We pray for the people of South Africa who are enduring devastating firestorms, and who, once again, are living with political unrest and uncertainty. We hold in our prayers all those victims and families affected by the dreadful apartment fire in London. Spirit-filled God…    “Hear our Prayers.”We end with a prayer for our fathers.

Fathers everywhere,
We honor you and wish to say
May God’s blessings be with you
May God’s blessings be with you
In a special way today!

And the people say……   AMEN
