Prayers of the People: June 24

Let us join our hearts and minds as one in prayer. When you hear the words “Lamb of God” please respond with “Hear our Prayers.

Loving God, today we focus on the children of the world.  Yes, we are proud of all those who are graduating this month, and we bless all the children who have attended Sunday School throughout the year.  Let us also focus on all those little ones in trouble in the world.  God of justice and peace, shine your light of love and protection on all those children of the world who are cold, hungry, in darkness, tired, or who are feeling hopeless, frightened, sad or worried. We ask your blessing and protection especially for the immigrant children who have been separated from their parents and housed far from all those they know and love.  God bless and keep them safe. Lamb of God…    “Hear our Prayers.

On those days when life may seem too demanding with all its cares, burdens, and busyness, we remember those who are in much more dangerous and demanding situations than any of us are. We offer prayers of support for health care workers, teachers, engineers and the many who serve throughout the world in various organizations. We unite in solidarity, love and peace with all those living with fear, oppression, violence, racism or homelessness. We remember our brothers and sisters at Nyanyadzi Methodist Church in Zimbabwe. In our Kootenay Presbytery prayer cycle this week, we pray for the Reverend Frank Lewis, recently retired from Cranbrook United Church. In the World Council of Churches Prayer Cycle, we present our prayers for the people of Kenya and Tanzania. Lamb of God…    “Hear our Prayers.

When we feel discouraged and alone, desolate or depressed; when we struggle with pain and the challenge of serious illness, we must summon deep and faith-filled strength.   We especially pray for those named in our Prayer List…    …Lamb of God…    “Hear our Prayers.

Compassionate and caring God, help us to care for others as You care for us. Keep us ever-aware of the many ways that we creatures create disharmony in our world.  Help us to stand up and be counted. Help us to not be afraid, or sheepish about our faith, but to follow You in the way of Jesus, in the way of God’s love. Lamb of God…    “Hear our Prayers.

We end with a prayer for our children.

Loving Father/Mother God,
We ask that your strong arms of protection
Be around our children.
That they may be held safely
Within your love.
Fill their days and nights with hope and joy
Fill their hearts and minds
With your truth and light.
We trust in you.

And the people say……   “AMEN!”
