Prayers of the People: May 12

Published on May 17th, 2019 by Member of Congregation | 0

On this day when we honour our mothers and celebrate motherhood, let us find peace within ourselves as we prepare for prayer. When you hear the words: “Mothering Holy One,” please respond with “Nourish us with Love.”

Loving God, As the glory of spring unfolds around us, we give thanks for ordinary miracles: for the warming sun that lifts our spirits, for the flowers and trees that have been reawakened and whose greening once again reassures us of your continuing presence.  May we be inspired by this reawakening to work to preserve the delicate balance of our earth and its resources.  Awaken in us, too, the joy of serving you through prayer and through work and do not let us become complacent in our search for ways to dispel the unrest and suffering in the world. Mothering Holy One…   “Nourish Us With Love.”

Compassionate God, we pray for people everywhere who long to feel your presence and the peace that only you can offer.  We pray for our Bienestar partners involved in the Nelson United Church outreach project in Guatemala, our brothers and sisters at Nyanyadzi Methodist Church, Peacekeepers and Peacemakers, health care workers, teachers and engineers and all those who serve throughout the world through many organizations. We pray also for the LGBTQ people who are persecuted in many countries. On our own church roster, we ask that you extend your healing, comforting and consoling love to all those named in our Prayer List. We pause now to remember silently or name aloud those whose lives touch ours and whose needs and concerns are ours too. Mothering Holy One…   “Nourish Us With Love.”

God of all people, We listen to the cries of people throughout the world who live in troubling places and in troubling times.  Give us the courage and strength to search for social justice, to reach out and accept those who are fleeing tyranny in every form. We pray for those who lead the nations of the world and for those who are in positions of power and influence, that they may govern with wisdom and truth and seek the ways of peace.  On this day, in our World Council of Churches Prayer Cycle, we pray for the countries of Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal.

Faithful God, we are grateful for all those people who make up our community.  Guide us that we may live together in peace, to celebrate the gift of life together. In the week ahead, anchor us in spiritual peace so that we may live in wholeness, abundance and harmony.  Open our hearts to new possibilities and give us the strength and courage to act upon them. Gather us under your wings of love, calm our fears and help us to keep our faith strong.

Amen!
