For the Children Sunday school happens each Sunday except for the Intergenerational Sunday We have a Nursery Room available upstairs by the balcony, a Quiet Play Centre at the front right-hand side of the sanctuary and activity packages are available from the ushers.

Intergenerational Sunday The first Sunday of each month is Communion Sunday and is an Intergenerational Sunday, so the children do not go to Sunday School. Activity packages are available from the ushers.

We Are An Affirming Ministry As an Affirming Ministry, we celebrate the diversity of God’s creation. We celebrate the richness of our community when we have diversity in age, gender identity, racial/cultural backgrounds, sexual orientation, ability, and family configurations. We seek to create a safe space with an open invitation to bring every aspect of your whole self into your participation in this ministry

Staff Schedule
David will be taking a study week off next week to go to a conference in Seattle, followed by a week of holiday time off. He’ll be back in the office on May 6th.  Thank you to Carol Prochaska for leading us in worship while David is away.

Thank You…
To all who helped to provide a lovely memorial celebration for the family and friends of Caroline Hopwood.
To those who have done special readings during Lent and Holy Week.
To Dirk Jonker for leading a team to update our Fire Evacuation Plan.
To the crew that has done a great job of renovating our Church Hall area.  It’s looking amazing!
A very big thank you to Jack Berry for all the time he spent to get our Hearing Loop installed.

Meals on Wheels Drivers Needed
The month of May is Nelson United Church’s turn to help out with the Meals on Wheels program.  The meals are delivered at 11:30 am on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.  Please contact our Meals on Wheel’s Captain, Bill Costain (250-352-2367) if you can help deliver meals or for more information.

Walk for Alzheimer
Walk for Alzheimer takes place at Lakeside Park, Sunday, May 5th.  A group of us with dementia in our family will be walking and raising donations.  See us at coffee time or call Linda Hoskin, team captain, at 250-352-9552.

NUC Wordle Bags
We purchased another set of 25 NUC Wordle Bags from a local screen printer.  They’re blue and have a large outside pocket and two small inside pockets. These bags look great and are very versatile.  Please see Lois in the church office if you’d like to purchase a bag.  They are $25 each.

*Church Business Parking on Silica Street*
The City of Nelson has advised us to issue Parking Passes to those who park in the Church Business Parking on Silica Street on Mondays to Saturdays between 9 am to 5 pm.  The bylaw officer will ticket anyone parking in these spots that do not have a Parking Pass.  Please see Lois in the church office to receive a Parking Pass.

Hearing Loop Installation
The Sanctuary’s main floor Hearing Loop is up and running and folks are reporting success with the system. If you find yourself having problems getting your hearing aids to connect with the Hearing Loop, please check with your Hearing Aid provider to make sure your hearing aids have a t-coil and are set up correctly.

Cinnamon Buns!
I know you were all devastated to have to miss the Valentine Coffee Party and the Top O’ the Morning Tea this year (especially the UCW women!!).  So, to compensate, we’ve decided to have a cinnamon bun baking blitz.  Cinnamon Buns, made with love by the women of the UCW, will be available for sale by order.  Starting on Sunday, April 7th, we will take pre-orders for a half-dozen or a dozen cinnamon buns.  Gluten-Free buns will also be available, as will single buns on Sunday, April 28th.

Men’s Game Time Every second and fourth Friday of the month  Men will gather at 1:00 pm in the Trinity Lounge to play any variety of games like UNO, Cribbage, Crokinole. Come and join us. Joe Woodward and David Cunningham can tell you more…

Kootenay Refugee Coalition
The Kootenay Refugee Coalition is happy to receive donations to help support the arrival of Selam’s four children, Yohanna, Nahom, Fithawit and Arsema for the next year.  If you are interested in helping, please make your cheque out to Nelson United Church and note in the cheque’s memo line or on your offering envelope: Kootenay Refugee Coalition (or just ‘KRC’).

Friendly Reminder re Parking for Church & Church Events
With our location on the corner of two streets, and with the hills parking is a challenge. Our request is that the more able-bodied folk please park farther away from the church thus leaving the spots on the streets closer to the church for those who need them. This includes the parking lot at the back of the church, too. Many of you already carpool and that’s great; a nice social time, too.

Sunday School Teachers
Do your spiritual gifts include teaching? The Sunday School is in need of both regular classroom teachers for all age groups and special guests interested in sharing their spiritual practice with older children and teens. Volunteers commit in advance to only weeks that work for them and are supplied with lesson plans and materials. Contact Robin Murray at the office.

Windows Memorial Plaques In memory of Elaine Balahura, Lesley Joan Kennedy and Lorne Owen Kennedy (Donna Strongman’s sister and brother), we have added their names to the Windows Memorial Plaque. If you would like to add a name in memory to the Windows Memorial Plaqueplease speak to Donna or Lois in the office.

Recorder Ensemble Spirit Winds Recorder Ensemble is starting rehearsals for a new session, so now is the time to join! Talk to Robin Murray.

NUC Account at Bottle Depot We have an account set up at the Nelson Leafs Bottle Depot and Recycling Centre.  A reminder that before they start counting your bottles and cans, let them know they’re for Nelson United Church or they’ll give you cash if you don’t.  Every little bit helps – thanks, everyone!

Looking for Ushers We are looking for someone to join the Ushering Team. Would you be able to spend a bit of time before the service, once every 5 months or so, welcoming folks and giving out bulletins? Please let me, or Lois in the office, know if you would like to volunteer in this way. Thanks – Donna Strongman
