Sunday School is in session and we have a Nursery Room available upstairs by the balcony, a Quiet Play Centre at the front right-hand side of the sanctuary and activity packages for the children are available from the ushers.

It’s an experiment!  Intergenerational Sunday The first Sunday of each month is Communion Sunday and is an Intergenerational Sunday, so the children do not go to Sunday School. Activity packages are available from the ushers. It has been our tradition for the children to leave their Sunday School classes to join us to receive the bread and juice. By placing Communion at the beginning of worship the children are present for the full communion liturgy, including the breaking and pouring.  Following the anthem, story and hymn they will, as usual, go to their classes for discussion and learning.

We Are An Affirming Ministry As an Affirming Ministry, we celebrate the diversity of God’s creation. We celebrate the richness of our community when we have diversity in age, gender identity, racial/cultural backgrounds, sexual orientation, ability, and family configurations. We seek to create a safe space with an open invitation to bring every aspect of your whole self into your participation in this ministry

Nyanyadzi Methodist Church and Zimbabwe Support Appeal

As many of you know, twinning with Nyanyadzi Methodist Church occurred in the early ’90s when Nelson was engaged with Mutare in Zimbabwe. Irene McIlwaine and Peggy Corbett were our main contacts for many years and Rachel Maposa and her mother Eleanor were our main contacts in Zimbabwe. We are endeavouring to establish a new contact as Eleanor died some years ago and Rachel moved. However, this note is to ask for your support for Nyanyadzi Methodist Church, and  Zimbabwe in general. Millions of people in Zimbabwe are starving and facing severe drought. So, please make a donation to Nelson United Church marking the donation for Zimbabwe / Nyanyadzi Methodist Church relief. Thank you.

Living Thankfully, Expressing Gratitude
This morning you will receive a piece of paper shaped like a leaf.  Please write a brief way in which someone could live more thankfully expressing gratitude. These will be collected during the hymn after the story and then distributed during the offering.  So, the idea is that you share a teaching regarding gratitude in your life that someone else will take home with them.  Put it on the fridge and remember to be grateful in your day-today life.  An example of a way to express gratitude:  write something for which you are grateful each day in a gratitude journal.  OR say hello to someone on the street you don’t know.  OR say thanks before each meal if you are not already doing so.

Join us for an update on the work of Bienestar and our partners in Guatemala next Sunday, October 20th following worship in the Church Hall.  Learn about the different projects that Bienestar supports, the impact of this work in Guatemala, and how you are part of a story of hope.  There will be a short video, Q & A, desserts, and beverages.  Look forward to seeing you there!

Thank You…
To Carol and Robin for blessing us all with your wit, expertise and cheerful competence during David’s absence.
To Barbara for being a capable substitute for Lois.
To all who helped to provide a lovely memorial tribute     yesterday for Barbara Renwick.
