For the Children
Children are always welcome and encouraged to come to church on Sunday. We have a Nursery Room available upstairs by the balcony, a Quiet Play Centre in the front right hand side of the sanctuary, and activity packages are available from the ushers. Sunday School resumes next Sunday, September 11th
John will be back on September 11th. Thank you to Muriel Tyler for accompanying us on the piano this summer. Thank you also to Joe and Morgan for keeping our church nice and clean and to Dirk, Danaraj, Lena and Leah for their help in cleaning too.
David is on holidays next week and will be back in the office on Tuesday, September 6th. Carol Prochaska is our worship leader today.
Supporting Nelson Pride
Nelson United Church has supported Pride by marching in the parade every Labour Day weekend for 20 years. To increase support and become more involved, we are offering a film event on Sunday, September 4th at 7:00 pm. The films being shown are “In Particular, barbara findlay” a new documentary on Vancouver based social justice lawyer, and “Conceiving Family” a story of adoption. It is hoped that the film evening will become a regular part of Pride and an addition to our Affirming Ministry. Please mark your calendars:

They also have a Silent On-line Auction for the Annual AIDS Walk for Life begins on August 12th at 8 am and ends at 10 pm on September 9th. Featured in the auction are donations from 25 local businesses. Check it out!! The website is: www.32auctions.com/nelsonaidswalk2016
All proceeds from both fundraisers events go to the ANKORS Foundation Fund. This is a fund specifically for people living in the West Kootenay Boundary Region who are living with HIV/AIDS, and need a little extra support financially for health care, living or travel costs. There are pledge sheets available in the Church Hall after worship for anyone interested in supporting ANKORS.
Food For Thought
Near the end of October we are hoping to host an evening fundraiser to include desserts and a silent auction. Please think about whether you could donate an interesting new item or perhaps a service for the silent auction. For further information, please talk to Lois or Leah.
