Reverend Fredrick Thondhlana

I grew up in Mutare, where I completed my early education. My passion for ministry led me to relocate to Harare, where I trained as a pastor at the United Theological Education. I hold a Diploma in Theology, a Diploma in Religious Studies, a BA with Honors in Religious Studies, and an MSc in Peace and Governance.

Since becoming a pastor of the United Church of Christ of Zimbabwe (UCCZ) in 2005, I have made significant contributions to the church and the community. I was ordained in 2011 and served as the Director for Children’s Ministries and Youth Ministry, focusing on nurturing the spiritual growth of younger generations. I was also the Christian Education Director and Communications Director for UCCZ.

I was deeply involved in social justice advocacy through the Zimbabwe Council of Churches, where I worked to address various societal issues affecting vulnerable populations.  Founded the Kanyi Redu Development Trust, an initiative aimed at supporting the vulnerable in Chipinge District, Zimbabwe. Through this trust, I have been instrumental in implementing programs that uplift and empower those in need. I have been involved with civic organizations that champion the rights of the less privileged. I participated in a number of community programmes, such as the Community Based AIDS Programme (CBAP), which is a programme led by the church to help those infected and affected by HIV and AIDS. I have a passion for reaching out to the marginalized people of society. As a Peace Practitioner, I was actively involved with the Zimbabwe Council of Churches, where I spoke out against violence and injustice. I believe in the power of dialogue and community engagement to resolve conflicts and build a more peaceful society.

I have a passion for music and have recorded three albums.

I am married to Juliet Mwafuka and have our daughter, Blessing.

For thousands of years, First Nations people have walked on this land; their relationship with the land is at the centre of their lives and spirituality. We acknowledge that the land on which Nelson United Church gathers is the traditional territories of the Sinixt and the Ktunaxa peoples and is home to many diverse indigenous persons, including the Métis. We acknowledge the injustices that indigenous people have faced and continue to face today. We commit to reconciliation, together, as children of the creator.
