This prayer is based on a prayer written by Bruce Prewer. When you hear the words,” Please reveal your compassion,” respond with, “Loving God, bring wholeness to all.” Please reveal your compassion… “Loving God, bring wholeness to all.”
God of all things seen and unseen, if you had insulated yourself from the pain of the world, then your name could not be love and our condition would be without hope. Thank you for being so personally involved in life, for revealing your complete love in and through Jesus of Nazareth. In the name and power of love, we pray with hope. Please reveal your compassion… “Loving God, bring wholeness to all.”
Let your healing love be known this day by all who suffer ailment of body, or distress of mind, or agony of spirit. We pray for all those named in our Prayer List and all we now name silently or aloud… Please reveal your compassion… “Loving God, bring wholeness to all.”
Let your intimate love be known today by all who feel forgotten or lost, and all who are walking in the dark valley of despair. Let your fierce love this day redress the wrongs of all who suffer exploitation, injustice, abuse, neglect, violence or unwarranted imprisonment. Let your nurturing love today encourage those who are gathering the resolve to make tough decisions, take on new responsibilities, or break free from some bondage. Please reveal your compassion… “Loving God, bring wholeness to all.”
Let your reconciling love today gather together all who are divided: divided countries, divided families, divided communities. Make us all aware of the importance of finding a common future where the rights of all creation will be protected and all life will flourish for eons yet to come. In our ecumenical prayer cycle from the World Council of Churches, we pray especially for the countries of France, Germany, and Monaco. We pray for Venezuela, Palestine, Israel, Syria, Yemen, Nigeria, and all countries seeking peace and a new way of hope. Please reveal your compassion… “Loving God, bring wholeness to all.”
Let your inspiring love this day rejuvenate all who serve in the world in many different ways: the people of Nyanyadzi Methodist Church in Zimbabwe; our Bienestar partners involved in the Nelson United Church outreach project in Guatemala; peacemakers and peacekeepers, health care workers, teachers, engineers and the many who serve throughout the world through many organizations; climate justice activists and scientists. May we all experience a rejuvenation in our common work to bring justice, hope and peace to our world. Please reveal your compassion… “Loving God, bring wholeness to all.”
Thank you for hearing us, most loving God. We are grateful for the many gifts you give: the inspiring of young people in the UK to demand action for the planet; the inspiring gift of young politicians who speak from a place of hope and openness; the gift of poets and artists who help us see more clearly the gift of blessing and the promise of love to change lives. With people of faith in all time and eternity, we want to celebrate love today and share your blessings with all. May it be so. Amen.
