As we get up and live each day, we become more aware of all that we have in this life. When you hear the words, “God always present”, you may answer with “Hear our Prayers”.
We praise and thank you, God, for simply being alive on this new day and in this new year, rejoicing in what we do have, to name a few: we have at least part, or all, of our sight – hearing – taste – touch – and smell; we can see in all the array of colours rather than just shades of black and white; we have friends and relatives, loved ones we appreciate and care for, and who care for us; we know the live-giving Sun will rise each day and move as it always does, to then set, replaced by other stars and the Moon, those all rising and setting too.
In the best nature of our humanity, we anticipate that however things may go at the moment, the good will eventually prevail. Help us to believe that Love is everywhere in the world, that You are love, and by knowing that, we can live this life, a gift we receive every moment. God always present… Hear our Prayers.
From our Pacific Mountain Regional Council Prayer Cycle, we remember and pray for Omineca Pastoral Charge in Vanderhoof; O’man’s Nam’a (We Are One) church plant in Port Hardy; Our Place Society, Victoria; Osoyoos United Church; Pacific Spirit United Church, Vancouver; and Peachland United Church.
From the World Council of Churches’ prayer cycle, we pray for the countries of Iran, Iraq and Syria; that more authorities may govern with compassion; that families bereaved be comforted; that minority communities become more secure; that Christian groups keep their tenacity of spirit; and that the weary and sick be healed and refreshed. God always present… Hear our Prayers.
And we pray for these:
For the Bienestar partners involved in our outreach project in Guatemala, God grant them continued improvement in all parts of their lives and give them strength and courage to face and overcome challenges.
For our brothers & sisters at Nyanyadzi Methodist Church in Zimbabwe, by your Grace, protect and strengthen them and keep them safe from all threats.
For peacemakers and peacekeepers, health care workers, teachers, engineers and all those serving throughout the world through many organizations.
For all affected by COVID-19, whether in body, mind or spirit, God, be very near. May your Spirit send a healing balm and grant them freedom from fear and worry.
For all LGBTQ, 2S, I, A, + people who are persecuted in many countries, protect and keep them safe.
Creator of the Universe, may we be reminded that our lives, on this the only place we can survive, are completely dependent on how we take care of our Earth. In your love, grant that people and governments everywhere realize that fact and make changes in habits and policies to keep restoring our environment. As Aldo Leopold said, “Having to squeeze the last drop of utility out of the land has the same desperate finality as having to chop up the furniture to keep warm.” God always present… Hear our Prayers.
Dear God, in your goodness and grace, we pray for our loved ones named in our Prayer List. May healing, understanding, protection, peace and transformation come to them…. And now we say, silently or aloud, the names of those on our hearts in any kind of need… …God always present… Hear our Prayers.
As we have been reminded from the beginning, you still tell us, ‘Don’t be Afraid’ and ‘Peace, Be Still’. May they be constant prayers in our hearts.
As the 20th Century Jesuit Priest, Pierre Teilhard de Chardin once said, “The day will come when, after harnessing the ether, the winds, the tides, and gravitation, we shall harness for God the energies of love. And, on that day, for the second time in the history of the world, man will have discovered fire”. God always present… Hear our Prayers.
