Prayers of the People: June 21

Let us prepare to pray to our Creator, as we listen to today’s Prayers of the People.
Loving Creator, on this National Indigenous Peoples Day we honour and respect all First Nations, Inuit and Metis peoples of our community, country and beyond. But it is a time when you have brought about great change, by reminding us to acknowledge that all humankind are equal and that diversity is a miracle to be celebrated. You challenge us, at home and throughout our global community, to seize the opportunity you have provided, to instill permanent change in our culture, in our actions, our attitudes, in our beliefs and behaviours. You have brought us to the turning point and are shining your light on a world that begs for a commitment to human rights, love and justice.

So, when you hear the words, Loving Creator of Justice, please hold your hand to your heart and respond with “All My Relations”.

Loving Creator, we join with others as we pray for Our Bienestar partners involved in the Nelson United Church outreach project in Guatemala, our brothers & sisters at Nyanyadzi  Methodist Church in Zimbabwe, Peacemakers and Peacekeepers, Health care workers, Teachers, Engineers and the many who serve throughout the world through many organizations. All affected by COVID-19, whether in body, mind or spirit. We continue to recognize and pray for LGBTQ2SIA+ people who are persecuted in many countries. We pray for the future of our environment; protecting and respecting this gift of creation.  In our Pacific Mountain Regional Prayer Cycle, we pray for Oliver United, and United Churches at Comox, Kamloops and Coquitlam. And in our World Council of Churches Ecumenical Prayer Cycle, we pray today for the peoples of Kenya and Tanzania.  Loving Creator of Justice…    “All My Relations.”

Today, we especially voice our heartfelt concerns those we love who are sad, or facing bad news, grieving, or unwell.  We name all those in our Prayer List…    …Let us take a moment to name those who are also in need of our prayers this morning by naming them aloud or silently at this time…     …Loving Creator of Justice…    “All My Relations.”

On this day we want to acknowledge and thank the First Nations, Inuit and Metis peoples locally who are making a difference by bringing about healing, education, justice, and love, both within their communities and throughout the broader community.  At this time we recognize the Elders and Healers, and the Circle of Indigenous Nations Society members and staff, and many others who contribute to wellness and understanding and appreciation of and for all peoples.

Loving Creator, we are your people. We look to the future with optimism and with faith in you, as we pursue our call to provide justice and fullness of life for all peoples. We pray that every person may develop their potential and meet you in themselves and in one another. May we enjoy a totally welcoming community, with you as our centre, joined hand in hand with our sisters and brothers.

Today we thank you, oh Creator, for bringing us to the centre, by giving us the gifts of your understanding and the behaviours that enable us to celebrate diversity through inclusion, tolerance, justice, equity and equality which are all elements of the love and compassion you instill in us in these precious moments you have given for us to share throughout the world. Loving Creator of Justice…    “All My Relations.”

Amen!
