Prayers of the People: May 17

Let us find peace within ourselves as we prepare to pray.  When you hear the words “God of Love and Hope,” please respond with “Hear our Prayers.”

Gracious and Holy God, allow your presence in our lives to give us joy during this difficult time.  Give us the strength to overcome our fears and open our hearts to enjoy the beauty of another spring.  Despite our isolation, help us to enjoy the warmth of the sun, the beauty in the colours of trees and flowers coming to a new life around us.  As Creator of our earth,  awaken in us our capacity to love and respect our land and its people.  Help us to continue to strive for the harmony we so desperately need to promote the peace we long for. God of Love and Hope…    “Hear our Prayers.”

Healing God, As your people, we are called to love one another.  We send our love and our prayers for those who are burdened with illness, grief or despair.   May they feel your loving presence and healing comfort. We pray for those people affected by COVID-19, whether in body, mind or spirit.  We especially remember our brothers and sisters at Nyanyadzi Methodist Church, Peacemakers and peacekeepers, health care workers, teachers, engineers and the many who serve throughout the world through many organizations.  We pray for the LGBTQ2SIA+ people who are persecuted in many countries.  We pray for all those named in our Prayer List…  We also pause to remember others whose lives touch our own and whose needs and concerns are close to our hearts…    … God of Love and Hope…    “Hear our Prayers.”

Gracious God, We offer our prayers for the people in our world that are not blessed with the privileges we enjoy and whose everyday lives are a struggle.  We pray that world leaders are given the wisdom to guide and govern with justice, mercy and compassion.  In our World Council of Churches Prayer Cycle, we pray for the people of the Indian Ocean Islands of Comoros, Madagascar, Maldives, Mauritius and Seychelles. Closer to home in our Pacific Mountain Regional Council Prayer Cycle, we pray for the Knox United Church in Parksville.God of Love and Hope…    “Hear our Prayers.”

Faithful God, Bless us and hear our prayers for others, for ourselves, for our community and for our world as we struggle to control the pandemic.  Fill us with hope and give us courage to face our challenges with faith, dignity and grace.  Surround us with the light and power of your divine protection, calm our fears and help us to keep our faith strong.

Amen!
