Prayers of the People: November 10

Let us pray for peace, for compassion to those who are struggling, and hope for us all.  When you hear the words, “O God, in your compassion,” please respond with, “Hear our prayers.

Holy One, we know that we are not alone, we live in your world. We know that you call each of us to love and serve others, to seek justice and resist evil. We know that each of us carries within our self your vision of all creation healed and restored. Because we are partners with you in caring for this creation and the worldwide community of people, Holy One, listen to our prayerful hearts.  O God, in your compassion… Hear our Prayers.

We cannot merely pray to You, 0 God, to end war, for we know that you have made the world in a way that we must find our own paths to peace within ourselves and with our neighbours.  We cannot merely pray to you, 0 God, to end starvation, for you have already given us the resources with which to feed the entire world if we would only use them wisely.  We pray for all in the countries named by the World Council of Churches who are working to end violence, war and starvation: Aotearoa New Zealand and Australia.  We pray also for Our Bienestar partners in Guatemala, our kindred at Nyanyadzi Methodist Church in Zimbabwe, peacemakers and peacekeepers, health care workers, teachers, engineers and the many who serve throughout the world through many organizations.  We pray also for LGBTQ+ people who face persecution and their allies and supporters working to create change.  O God, in your compassion…

We pray for courage in our churches and denominations, that a new spirit of hope may take root and create new paths for hope and compassion to bear fruit.  Bless the Evolve Youth Event, which Robin Murray is attending, happening this weekend in our Pacific-Mountain Region. We pray for courage for ordinary people to follow the example of Greta Thunberg or Jean Béliveau to make extraordinary contributions to world peace and hope for our planet.  Following the example of Nashon, may we step out in faith together to make a difference through our church community here at Nelson United and with other partners in the world.  O God, in your compassion… Hear our Prayers.

We lift to you those whom we carry in our hearts who are experiencing disease and suffering.  May your compassion hold them in love and may we embrace them with our healing hope; we pray for all those named in our Prayer List and others we name now silently or aloud…  O God, in your compassion… Hear our Prayers.

Gracious God, your love knows no limits.  Fill our hearts with your compassion, open our eyes to your presence in the world and enlarge our minds to understand your will. Take our hands and minister through them. Speak through our words and direct our feet in the path of peace, that Christ may be revealed in us and the world live in peace.

Amen.
